From 6.11 to 17.11.2017 TME Education Ambassador Ndembo Jaffari conducted training on Arduino programming in two schools in Tanzania - Iyunga Technical Secondary School and Mtwara Technical Secondary School. For this purpose, he used TME Education Kit based on Arduino board.
The first week Ndembo spent in Iyunga Technical Secondary School for boys. The institution dates back to 1925 and it consists of two levels - Ordinary and Advanced. The first cycle lasts three years and provides courses in three areas - civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Apart from this, students learn also engineering science, chemistry, biology, basic mathematics, Kiswahili and English. The advanced-level students can either choose from PCB (physics, chemistry and biology) or PCM (physics, chemistry and mathematics). Altogether, Iyunga Technical Secondary School has 1038 students, 548 for O’level and 490 for A’level.

Next, our ambassador went to Mtwara Secondary School in Mtwara region, close to the Indian Ocean. Established in 1973, it consists of two subunits - technical school and high school. It provides courses for both boys and girls in areas related not only to technology and engineering but also general subjects like biology, geography and chemistry. The school is attended by 901 students.

During his training, our ambassador showed the students from both schools basics of programming using the Arduino board. He explained functionalities of the item and described how it works. Among others, he demonstrated some of its features like LED signalization, sound signals, temperature, and light sensors. He also explained how to apply them to actual projects. Each training took five days and was attended by 69 students.
