Advancing STEM Education in Africa: TME Education's May 2024 Initiatives

In May 2024, our country ambassadors organized workshops and seminars across multiple African countries, including Botswana, Zambia, Kenya, Burundi, Uganda, Ethiopia, Mauritania and others. That month our journey was again nothing short of inspiring.

In Botswana, at Letlhakane, Resego Academy, Geda Birmaji School, and Old Naledi, TME Education ambassador, Keitumetse Neo Modipane, held training sessions for diverse age groups and adults. The participants had a practical session on physical computing, gaining experience in programming, electronic circuits, sensors, and actuators. Certificates of participation were issued, marking a significant milestone in their STEM journey. Meanwhile, the team made waves online, participating in seminars and an international conference on Open and Distance Learning in Gaborone.

In Zambia, the focus was hands-on learning at Makerspace Zambia. The workshop was a hive of activities as students immersed themselves into soldering lessons and joystick programming for device control. They explored the use and programming of 7-segment displays, OLED screens, servo motors, and ultrasonic sensors. A highlight was the introduction to 3D design and printing. Students not only learned to create designs but also brought them to life with 3D printers, deepening their understanding of this transformative technology.

In Burundi, the focus shifted to promoting technological literacy and innovation. The TME ambassador conducted comprehensive training in IoT, electronics, and coding. Participants eagerly engaged with the new material, realizing they were acquiring skills essential for careers in the burgeoning digital era.

Throughout these countries, our initiatives were not merely events but chapters in a broader narrative of educational transformation. Each workshop, seminar, and training session was a step towards fostering a culture of innovation and excellence across Africa, echoing our common unwavering commitment to STEM education.
