Machakos Institute of Technology (MIT) is a TVET (Technical and Vocational Training) registered technical institution located in Machakos town, Kenya. The school offers various technical courses at diploma and certificate level.
A four-day-long intensive teacher training took place at the institution on the second week of January.
Four teachers, two from Electrical department and two from ICT department attended the workshop.
The objective of the training was to introduce the staff to Arduino programming and to equip them with knowledge and skills that they can share with students at their educational facilities.
The first day kicked off with basics such as fundamentals of electronics, circuit design and interpretation, and of course introduction to Arduino.
The following days were intensified with exploring Arduino using the TME Educational Kit (TME-EDU-ARD-2). The teachers learned hardware and software structure of Arduino, as well as some troubleshooting guidelines and principles.
The ICT teachers were not familiar with electronic components before, but towards the end of the training they were able to assemble their own project.
