In August, TME Education Ambassador in Tanzania, Ndembo Jafari, visited two schools located in regions neighbouring Victoria Lake – Mwanza and Mara.

First, he conducted a week workshop at Bwiru Boys Technical Secondary School. The institution established in 1920 is now attended by 848 students and offers courses both at Ordinary and Advanced Level. The School offers, among others, several technical subjects from the following fields: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, which are also divided into subcategories like Electrical Installation and Electronics. The next stop on Ndembo’s journey was Musoma Technical Secondary School located in Mara Region. Established in 1940, the institution has been a school for boys up until today. It offers Ordinary level for technical subjects and Advanced for science. Currently, it’s being attended by 935 students that can choose technical subjects from three main engineering fields: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Computer Studies.

The workshops took six days at each school. During the training the students were first introduced to basics of electronics and then moved to Arduino programming, using TME Edu Kit. Five days were dedicated to exploring the Kit’s features like LEDs, switches, buzzers and sensors. The final day, the students could work on practical projects: Traffic Lights, Soil Moisture Test and Water Level Check. The training gathered 85 participants, 48 at Bwiru Boys Technical Secondary and 37 at Musoma Technical Secondary School.

Moreover, this time Ndembo conducted a brief, two-day teacher training from Arduino programming for a volunteer from Kamgendi Primary School.
